hot water dispenser in dorms

I'm going to be a freshman this fall; would a hot water dispenser like www.amazon.com/Sunbeam-Hot-Shot-Beverage-Machine/dp/B00006IUZ5/ref=pd_sbs_hg_1 be allowed in the dorms?

I'm in International Village, btw.

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, International Village isn't apartment-style - i.e., there are no kitchens within the apartments/suites. Technically, you're not allowed to have that sort of stuff in a place where there isn't a kitchen.

However, it's one of those things that just about everybody does anyways - just make sure it's put away when room inspections are performed each semester (you get advance notice). My freshman year I had a coffee maker in my room - with an RA living in the other bedroom in the suite - and I never had any problems with it.

Basically, I think it's a rule because it has to be, but it's constantly broken. So I'd say you're fine to bring it.

It's not technically allowed, but I have one of those Hot Shots and they're pretty perfect for the dorms. They're nice and small, and they don't store any water you can keep it under your bed or something for the room inspections. The average RA probably wouldn't care if they saw one of these in your room, but some of them take their jobs pretty seriously so if you want to be cautious, just keep in the habit of putting it away after each use. And those are even safe because they auto shut off, there;s no way for you to forget it is on like with a hot plate or something.

just cover it up w/ a blanket when the RAs do their inspections. I used to be an RA

I had one similar to that and just hid it during inspections.

Either bring it and hide it like the other suggest, or use someone on your floor's microwave to heat it up. Inevitably, just about everyone else will have a microfridge.

You don't have to bother hiding anything if you become friends with your RA- freshman year I hung out with friends in Stetson West, and at one point we were eating mozzarella sticks or something that were cooked in a banned toaster oven. The RA knocked on the door and asked if he could have some.

Your RA is not always the one who does the health and safety inspections.

however, inspections are always announced prior to when they take place, so you'll have warning.
